Aerodynamic characteristics of a high-speed train crossing the wake of a bridge tower from moving model experiments

Abstract In a strong crosswind, the wake of bridge tower will lead to an abrupt change aerodynamic forces acting on vehicle passing through it, which may result in problems related transportation safety. This study investigates transient characteristics high-speed train moving truss girder and by wind tunnel. The scaled ratio train, bridge, are 1:30. Effects various parameters such as incoming speed, yaw angle performance were considered. Then sudden mechanism loads when it crosses over was further discussed. results show that has apparent shielding effect with influencing width being larger than tower. speed is main factor affecting coefficients, mutation amplitude mainly obtained changing or speed. movement introduces asymmetry loading process approaching leaving tower, should not be neglected.
